Abstract

El objetivo principal de este artículo es dar luz sobre la figura de Simón Suárez de Arcos, artista escénico español de la segunda mitad del siglo XX. Fue un artista intuitivo, exquisito, visionario y, en cierto modo, un uomo universale renacentista del siglo XX, ya que estaba cualificado y trabajó como pintor, escenógrafo, figurinista, diseñador de luz, musicólogo, actor y director de escena. Para ello hemos elegido el periodo en el que trabajó en Madrid para teatro, danza y ópera, entre el otoño de 1983 y el invierno de 1995. Además de aportar datos biográficos y de contexto de este artista, daremos las claves de su pensamiento, de su proceso creativo y del papel que juega la música en su concepción de la dirección escénica de ópera. En el ANEXO I se adjunta una relación cronológica completa de su obra en el periodo citado y el ANEXO II se reserva para las referencias bibliográficas.

The main objective of this article is to shed light on the figure of Simón Suárez de Arcos, a Spanish scenic artist of the second half of the twentieth century. He was an intuitive, exquisite, visionary artist and, in a way, a Renaissance uomo universale of the twentieth century, as he was qualified and worked as a painter, set designer, costume designer, light designer, musicologist, actor and stage director. For this we have chosen the period in which he worked in Madrid for theater, dance and opera, between the autumn of 1983 and the winter of 1995. In addition to providing biographical and contextual data on this artist, we will give the keys to his thought, his creative process and the role that music plays in his conception of opera stage direction. A complete chronological list of his work in the aforementioned period is attached in ANNEX I and ANNEX II is reserved for bibliographic references.
